Leverage your technical expertise and join a well-established construction company in Saudi Arabia, recognized for delivering complex electrical, transmission, distribution, and substation projects across the Kingdom.
As an under ground cable Engineer, you will be responsible for supervising and supporting all underground cable-related activities for HV/EHV substation projects. The role involves cable routing, laying, jointing, termination, testing, fault location, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and utility requirements.
Work Location: Saudi Arabia
Key Accountabilities
- Supervise all underground cable site activities related to HV/EHV substation projects, ensuring work is executed according to approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Support the installation of underground cables, including cable laying, pulling, trenching, backfilling, cable jointing, termination, and earthing of cable systems.
- Review engineering drawings, cable routing plans, trench details, termination drawings, method statements, inspection and test plans, and work procedures specific to underground cables.
- Coordinate with design, procurement, construction, QA/QC, HSE, and subcontractor teams to ensure smooth execution of cable installation activities.
- Monitor cable laying, glanding, termination, testing, and cable routing activities in line with project standards and cable manufacturer recommendations.
- Ensure proper execution of cable trench preparation, sand bedding, cable protection (tiles, markers), backfilling, and reinstatement.
- Conduct site inspections and support QA/QC teams during material inspection (cable drums, joints, terminations), installation checks, and testing activities.
- Perform or support cable testing, including insulation resistance (Megger), Hi-Pot testing, VLF testing, Tan Delta testing, and fault location using TDR or other equipment.
- Prepare daily progress reports, site updates, cable test reports, as-built drawings, and required technical documentation for the Construction Manager or Project Manager.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, utility representatives, and subcontractors to resolve technical and site-related issues related to underground cables.
- Support testing and commissioning teams during pre-commissioning, functional testing, energization, and handover stages for cable systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and utility requirements, including SEC, IEC, IEEE, BS, and applicable Saudi regulations for underground cables.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in underground cable engineering within HV/EHV substation or power infrastructure construction projects.
- Hands-on experience in HV/EHV underground cables, preferably including voltage levels such as 115 kV, 132 kV, or 220 kV.
- Good understanding of underground cable systems, including cable types (XLPE, PILC), cable laying methods, jointing, termination, and testing procedures.
- Familiarity with cable accessories such as joints, terminations (heat shrink, cold shrink, prefabricated), cable cleats, and earthing kits.
- Ability to read and interpret cable routing drawings, trench details, termination drawings, cable schedules, and single-line diagrams.
- Experience with cable testing equipment such as Megger, VLF tester, Hi-Pot tester, Tan Delta, and TDR for fault location.
