As Junior Software Testing Engineer, you will support the testing of enterprise software solutions by analyzing requirements, preparing and executing test cases, validating application functionality, and documenting defects. The role offers the opportunity to build practical experience in manual testing, API testing, SQL validation, and test automation while working closely with senior testers, developers, and project teams to ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality software.
Work Location: Cairo, Egypt.
Key Accountabilities
- Review and understand business and functional requirements with guidance from senior team members, identifying basic testing needs and clarifying unclear requirements.
- Prepare, document, and execute test scenarios and test cases based on approved requirements and test plans.
- Perform manual testing, including functional, regression, integration, smoke, sanity, and end-to-end testing, under the guidance of the testing team.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of testing documentation, including BRDs, FRDs, test plans, test cases, test reports, and UAT documents.
- Perform basic API testing using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar tools, validating API requests, responses, status codes, and business flows.
- Assist with authentication checks and API integration validation, escalating complex issues to senior team members when required.
- Support the development and execution of test automation scripts using Playwright, with guidance from senior testers.
- Maintain and update existing automation scripts and assist in identifying test scenarios suitable for automation.
- Assist in performance testing activities using Apache JMeter and/or Locust, supporting load, stress, and spike testing and documenting results.
- Perform basic SQL and database validation to verify application data and expected business outcomes; familiarity with MySQL is preferred.
- Identify, reproduce, document, and track defects with clear steps, expected and actual results, and supporting evidence.
- Use Jira or similar bug-tracking tools to log defects, update their status, and follow up with the testing and development teams.
- Support test execution tracking and test documentation using tools such as Xray, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar platforms, where applicable.
- Explore and use Generative AI and AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies to support test case preparation, documentation, and basic automation tasks.
- Participate in defect retesting and regression testing after fixes are delivered, ensuring issues are resolved and existing functionality remains stable.
- Collaborate with senior testers, developers, business analysts, and project teams to clarify requirements, report testing progress, and support timely issue resolution.
- Follow established testing procedures, quality standards, and documentation practices, while continuously developing technical and testing skills.
- Support testing activities throughout the software development lifecycle and contribute to continuous improvement of the QA process.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technology discipline.
- Around 1–3 years of experience in software testing, QA, or a related technical role; fresh graduates with relevant training or practical projects may also be considered.
- Basic understanding of the software testing lifecycle (STLC), software development lifecycle (SDLC), testing methodologies, and defect management.
- Basic knowledge of preparing and executing test scenarios and test cases based on business and functional requirements.
- Familiarity with Manual Testing, including functional, regression, integration, smoke, sanity, and end-to-end testing.
- Basic experience or training in API testing using Postman, Swagger, or similar tools.
- Foundational knowledge of Playwright test automation, with willingness to develop hands-on scripting skills and maintain reusable test scripts.
- Basic understanding of performance testing concepts such as load, stress, and spike testing; exposure to Apache JMeter and/or Locust is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and database validation; familiarity with MySQL is preferred.
- Ability to identify, reproduce, document, and track defects clearly using Jira or similar bug-tracking tools.
- Familiarity with test-management tools such as Xray, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Interest in using Generative AI or AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies to support testing, documentation, and learning.
- Basic understanding of Git and CI/CD concepts is an advantage.
- Good analytical, communication, documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and work collaboratively with senior testers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to follow testing procedures, manage assigned tasks, and communicate issues or blockers clearly.
